Hindus Speaking Out Against .GOD Domain Names

According to this article on News Blaze, highly respected Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, made a statement in Nevada on March 16th, stating that allowing domains based on religion or denomination would unnecessarily create more conflicts in a world already full of disputes.

Zed, president of the Universal Society of Hinduism, is warning ICANN about the hazards of allowing new gTLDs such as .christian, .muslim, .hindu, .buddhist, .jew, etc.

Rajan Zed later quotes Article 2.1 (b) of the ICANN GAC Principles Regarding New gTLDs, which state: “New gTLDs should respect the sensitivities regarding terms with national, cultural, geographic and religious significance.”

I believe he is right and according to the terms defined in the article mentioned above, we are safe from seeing any religious domain extensions.

Not to mention the fees and paperwork involved in launching a new gTLD. I doubt any institution, religious or not, would be willing to put up the money to launch a new gTLD of this nature.
