    What is SEO?

    SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) combines techniques used to make a website more “search engine Friendly” and constant review of a websites performance in the SERP’s (Search Engine Results Pages) in order to increase visibility/performance in major search engines.
    Every Search Engine has a unique formula (known as an algorithm) for ranking web pages for relevance and importance to search queries or keywords. Search Engine Optimisation uses an in depth knowledge of search engines algorithms to make changes to a website so that it better adheres to their algorithms.
    What are Keywords?

    Keywords are words or phrases that describe your business. These are the search queries that people enter into search engines to find a product they are looking for. We target each SEO campaign at carefully considered keywords in order to generate the most possible sales.
    How will SEO affect my website?

    The design of your website will not be affected by SEO.
    A lot of optimisation techniques involve manipulation of the code that makes up a website and will have no adverse effects on the “look and feel” of your site. Slight changes to the content/copy of your website may occur, but this usually just involves implementation of keywords into the copy.
    Of course the most important effect of SEO is to improve a websites ranking in search engines. An increased rank brings with it many advantages……

    1. More targeted website visitors.
    2. More sales/leads/sign ups etc.
    3. Increased company profile.

    Why do it?

    Having increased visibility on major search engines has obvious benefits. As mentioned above, an increased position in the search engines means more targeted visitors to your website. Targeted visitors means that search engine users who find your website are as far into the buying cycle as possible, after all they are searching the internet for the products/services you sell!...... This will ultimately lead to more sales and increased profitability. Search Engine Optimisation frequently creates much higher return on investment than traditional forms of advertising, and now that more and more people turn to the internet when looking for a product or service it is becoming more important for businesses to focus on these “surfers”.If your competitors are currently participating in search engine marketing then they are one step ahead, and will be gaining sales daily that you may be missing out on. Similarly, if your competitors have not yet seen the importance of search engine marketing, then you can take advantage and increase your search engine visibility…… can you afford not to start a search engine optimisation campaign?
    My site has been designed and is hosted with another company, can you still optimise it?

    In order to optimise your website we need to be able to access your website. There are two possible means of doing this:

    * Through File Transfer Protocol (FTP). You must ask your web hosting/design company to grant you/ourselves access by this means.
    * We can host and optimise your website. Our secure, reliable business hosting costs £125* for regular websites and £175* for dynamic (database driven) websites per year.*

    *Whilst we are managing your SEO campaign we offer a discount on hosting of 25%. (£93.75 per year and £131.25 respectively)
    Do you guarantee positions?

    No. The only company that can guarantee you top spot on Google is... Google! Companies that promise top positions generally have plenty of small print for you to read. All of our SEO customers enjoy top ten positions in major search engines on at least some of their key phrases.

    What does it cost?

    A search engine management campaign compares very favourably on price with traditional marketing methods and has the potential to deliver exponentially more returns. We offer three packages, all of which include a monthly statistical report:

    * SEO Lite: £65 + VAT per month
    Featuring 2 hours' labour per month and 5 keyphrases
    * SEO Standard: £95 + VAT per month
    Featuring 3 hours' labour per month and 10 keyphrases
    * SEO Premium: £185 + VAT per month
    Featuring 6 hours' labour per month and 20 keyphrases

    Special Offer for February & March 2006, Get the first month of your SEO Campaign free!

    All these prices represent a significant saving on our standard hourly rate, and further discounts are available for quarterly or annual payments. Call us on 01460 55662 for more information.

    Each month a statistical report will show you, and us, which areas are improved, and those which require attention. And, in the event that the search engines change their criteria or search algorithms (as they frequently do), you have the comfort of knowing that someone is on the case for you.
    What is involved?

    There are many aspects involved with SEO, some more technical than others. SEO can be split into two main categories- “on page” and “off page”. Below is a general description of what these categories involve:

    “On page” optimisation looks at the code and copy of your website. We will usually need to integrate keywords within specific areas of your site, and in a way that search engines “appreciate”. We will also look at how “search engine friendly” your website is. On page optimisation includes analyses of (but is not limited to):

    * Title tags.
    * Meta data (e.g. Meta description, Meta keywords, Meta robots tags etc).
    * Alt image attributes. Image optimisation.
    * Keyword density.
    * Header tags.
    * Outbound link anchor text.
    * Same site link anchor text (internal navigation).
    * The use of Flash.
    * Robots.txt

    “Off page” optimisation refers to link building or gaining inbound links to a website. This is important because a large proportion of search engines algorithms rank websites on link popularity. Basically, if a website places a link to your website from theirs than this is classed as a “vote” for your site. The more votes for your website the more “important” your site is deemed by the search engines.

    Unfortunatley it is not quite as simple as it sounds. Google.com were the first search engine to measure link popularity and formed a major part of their algorithm called “Pagerank”, (after Larry Page Google’s founder).This new way of ranking websites soon gave Google a leading edge over other search engines and has ultimately led them to being the most popular search engine in the world. Back when this first happened in the late 90’s “a vote was a vote” and webmasters soon started link exchanging (reciprocal linking) like crazy to push themselves up the serp’s. Since then, and after many, many algorithm tweaks link building campaigns must be carried out with caution. Exchanging links with as many websites as possible is pointless. Only when you exchange links with a website with similar content, or with similar topics is the exchange advantageous. Also reciprocal links are now given much less weight than one way links.Submitting your site to FFA (free for all) sites like link farms is actually detrimental to your websites rank and should not be considered, as is building to many links to quickly…. This is deemed as trying to artificially increase link popularity.As part of our search engine optimisation packages we will be developing your websites link popularity in a way that will have only beneficial effects on your websites ranking.
